Student Testimonials

“Working with my tutor for the past 7 months in preparation for my Step 1 exam has been one of the most fulfilling learning experiences in my medical journey. Not once during our sessions together did my tutor ever make me feel inferior or incapable. She reassured the things I did know, and made me confident enough to share my uncertainties so that I could excel. My tutor has not only been a great teacher, she has also been a mentor, a friend, a cheerleader and a consoler to me when needed. There aren’t enough words to express my gratitude towards my tutor and towards Elite Medical Prep for pairing me with her.

“I cannot overemphasize how critical my tutor’s help has been to my success throughout my Step 1 dedicated period. In a very short period of time, my tutor helped me improve my Step 1 score by 27 points. We made a schedule at the beginning of dedicated prep time that allowed me to address my weakest subject areas first, and have worked together on reviewing the material two times a week since then. After addressing the level of anxiety I had surrounding NBME practice tests, my scores have now been improving by ten points each week, and I am on my way to achieving my target score. I can confidently say that I would not have addressed this component of my test preparation without my tutor’s help, and it is something that will make a tremendous difference for me on test day.”

“My tutor was definitely a game changer in my STEP preparation. He was able to effectively train me and provide strategies that helped improve my score by 30 points in my last week of STEP studying. In addition to providing me with test-taking strategies, my tutor was also very personable and I felt that he cared for me as a person. We began our sessions by explaining how my day was going and what I was doing for exam preparation. The introduction helped me to learn what I needed to focus on and made me feel comfortable to express any worries or fears that I had. My tutor was very good at addressing my worries by providing me with effective solutions that really helped me become more comfortable tackling the test. Another aspect that I liked about my tutor was his attentiveness. He was very good at picking up things that I said in passing which I thought were not important and telling me how to address them. The post-session notes were very good at providing me with feedback on how I was doing and also how to proceed. Overall, I really enjoyed working with my tutor and Elite Medical Prep.”

“My tutoring sessions were great! As a repeat tester, I was very discouraged. In our first meeting, my tutor got to know about my test-taking struggles and did a quick assessment to see how I approach questions. During our reviews, my tutor helped focus my attention on important cues within the questions as well as test-taking strategy. He was flexible with my schedule and was open to adjust based on my progress. My tutor built my confidence enough to where I could concentrate on the exam and not on my anxiety. I believe that what I learned has not only made me a better test-taker, but a better physician.”

“When I first sought out the Elite Medical Prep program, I was distraught and had essentially no self-confidence. I had already failed Step 1 twice, and my hope for passing on my third and final attempt was quite low. After talking to Dr. Brus-Ramer and completing a trial tutoring session with him, I began to feel a shred of hope in passing Step 1. I had exactly four weeks to prepare for the exam. My tutor assessed my strengths and weaknesses during the first session as well as listened to my goals and study plan. He let me tell my story. I was happy that he did not talk down to me. Together we formed a plan for the next four weeks. Over time, I became amazed at how my self-confidence slowly returned. Not only did I start to believe in myself again, I also started believing in the tutoring process. I took an NBME exam after the first two weeks of tutoring, and I passed—it was the first one I had ever passed. I started trusting my tutor completely after this experience. He had in only two weeks made my weaknesses become strengths. My tutor did more than just help me perform better on NBME exams and finally pass Step 1. He showed me how to use U-WORLD and ANKI efficiently. He helped me rebuild my confidence in my abilities. On my test day, I felt strong, confident, and capable. I had test-taking strategies at my fingertips. I knew how to approach and handle difficult questions and topics that previously fit into my “weaknesses” category. .When I received my score, it was the most joyous day of my life.

“For me, the most helpful parts of tutoring were a combination of having someone to walk me through difficult concepts; point out cognitive errors or bad test-taking habits in real time, which I would not have noticed by myself; keep me accountable for getting through my allotted questions; and guide me in prioritizing the most important topics/info, especially when I fell behind or felt overwhelmed. It was also nice to have someone confirm that I was on-track when I was unsure of myself or to redirect my attention when I got too caught up in one topic…My tutors’ encouragement and advice were invaluable in keeping me focused.

One of the most challenging aspects of approaching Step 1 studying is developing a schedule that is personalized to one’s own learning needs and incorporates the best resources available. Elite Medical Prep coached me in test-taking strategies and in how to best approach the overwhelming number of study tools available. Elite Medical Prep helped provide structure to my study period by having weekly sessions to recap difficult concepts that arose in practice questions as well as set goals for the upcoming week. “My tutors were both great in terms of helping me to stay organized and therefore relaxed about my studying. I also appreciated how flexible you were with billing, and your refund policy is amazingly generous. Anytime I am asked to talk about Step 1 or Step 2 prep, I always say that if you can afford it, tutoring is absolutely the way to go. And if they ask for a name, I give them yours!”

I knew how to approach and handle difficult questions and topics that previously fit into my “weaknesses” category...When I received my score, it was the most joyous day of my life.

“As a medical student aspiring to be competitive for top residency programs, Elite Medical Prephelped me achieve my goal–a Step 1 score of 240+. I would recommend Elite Medical Prep to any medical student preparing for Step 1.
