Matthew graduated with honors from the University of California, Santa Barbara with a B.S. in Biochemistry-Molecular Biology. At UCSB, he received the Robert H. DeWolfe Undergraduate Research Award for his work in organic chemistry and tutored STEM majors in biology. Prior to medical school, Matthew worked with cardiovascular registry data in the Santa Barbara County Emergency Medical Services Agency and obtained a Master of Public Health from the University College Dublin. He is currently a 4th-year medical student at Ponce Health Sciences University and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. Next year he will be a PGY-1 at the University of Texas Health San Antonio Internal Medicine Residency Program. Matthew has published two papers on the injury epidemiology of mass shooting survivors and is non-natively fluent in Spanish.
