April to May 2023: Assisting Students with Key Components – Letters of Recommendation, Personal Statement, and Away Rotations


Assist your students in scheduling elective rotations so that they can secure strong letters of recommendation in their desired specialty. At this point, your guidance on drafting compelling personal statements, as well as navigating the application process for away rotations is invaluable. Help your students understand the significance of these components in their applications. Make sure your students know all of the key ERAS and NRMP dates. June to July 2023: Navigating ERAS and Program Selection


Guide your students through the process of creating an Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) application and ensure accurate and comprehensive submissions. Collaborate with them to research and create a well-informed list of residency programs.


Toward the end of July or Early August is a good time to reread students’ personal statements. Offer feedback and help students highlight their strengths effectively.


August to September 2023: Ensuring Timely Application Submission


Ensure your students submit their ERAS applications on time. Assist them in organizing and uploading letters of recommendation, personal statements, and other required documents. Emphasize the importance of early submission during the residency application timeline to enhance their chances of securing interview invitations.


October to November 2023: Interview Preparation and Strategy


The end of the residency application process is nearing. As students begin to receive interview invitations, assist them in managing their interview schedules effectively. Offer guidance on scheduling and logistics, and remind them of the importance of responding promptly to interview requests. Help them prepare for interviews by conducting mock interviews, providing constructive feedback, and equipping them with effective interview strategies. Encourage students to research and compile pertinent information about each program, enabling them to make informed decisions during the ranking process.


December 2023 to January 2024: Navigating Rank Order Lists and Final Decisions


Support students as they complete their residency interviews and debrief afterward. Assist them in summarizing their impressions and comparing program features to inform their final rank order lists. Advise students on crafting personalized letters of intent for their top-choice programs. Ensure they understand the registration deadlines with the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) and assist them in finalizing their submissions.


February to March 2024: The Match Process Unveiled


During this period, guide students through the submission of their rank order lists, certifying them by the deadline. Help them understand the match process and expectations. Offer reassurance and support as they eagerly await their match results. In the event of an unmatched outcome, assist students in navigating the Supplemental Offer and Acceptance Program (SOAP) process.
